The Director of Operations Mike Lucero describes The Abbey as a unique property with the atmosphere, and engineering needs, of a historical resort. Watching the rollout of the Avendra program, Mike was impressed by the depth of support that his Avendra representative offered during the transition—everything from guidance on supplier capabilities to employee counseling on the benefits of change.
“Our Avendra representative overcame one of our biggest challenges when [industrial supply company] Grainger showed up to take inventory of our engineering supplies,” Mike explained. “With the Avendra representative’s experience, she knew what fit and what didn’t. We have all come to see her as a trusted resource.”
Mike was also impressed by the way the Avendra team got The Abbey’s chef on board with the new program. Avendra conducted a “Meet the Truck” audit where every item delivered by suppliers was inspected, at the loading dock, to ensure that it met the resort’s specifications. In addition, a meat cutting was arranged to demonstrate how Avendra supplier Buedel Meats stacked up against the favored current supplier. Once guests began complimenting the new steaks, the chef was willing to try other ideas. Mike knew that this key win would make the change easier for everyone else.
