Central to these two trends remains one key issue: plastic water bottles. In lieu of single-use-plastics, travelers have turned to reusable options, in some cases because they need to – As part of a zero-waste initiative, San Francisco International Airport recently banned vendors from selling single-use-plastic water bottles.
With initiatives like this in place, it is likely that more will follow suit. Guests will continue to invest in reusable water bottles to stay hydrated, save money and reduce their environmental footprint, and they will be expecting to fill them up with clean, healthy and easy options wherever they go.
To stay on top of these current trends and reduce your use of bottled water while providing quality options for guests, use on-site filtration where possible. Placing water filling stations in convenient places, such as in the lobby and next to ice machines on each floor, will help increase access to and use of these systems.
Consider offering “Hydration Stations,” providing reusable bottles for guests to use with these filtration systems to fit their needs. Glass bottles are great for in-house use, while reusable aluminum bottles offer a “to-go” selection for guests.
Avendra FF&E suppliers offer front and back of house solutions for water filtration. Two of these filtration solutions include:
- Elkay’s Rapid Bottled Water Filling Stations: Filling stations are ideal for hospitality, providing guests with convenient hydration to quench thirst and minimize plastic bottle waste in the environment.
- BUNN Refresh Cold Water Dispensers: Designed for either front or back of house settings, dispensers include still and sparkling water capabilities with unique, in-line carbonation and ice bank cooling technology.
Our suppliers continue to research, discuss and provide more sustainable options as health consciousness and plastic reduction becomes a priority. To find out more about our current water filtration solutions, contact Avendra’s FF&E Services.
